Following your pet’s surgery, it’s important to follow these guidelines to ensure a smooth recovery and reduce the risk of complications.
Today, your pet underwent a comprehensive oral health assessment and treatment (dental cleaning). As a result of the general anesthesia used during the procedure, mild drowsiness and lethargy are normal for the next 12–24 hours.
If dental extractions were performed, you may notice blood-tinged saliva—this is completely normal.
Sutures, if placed, are dissolvable and will naturally fall out within a few days.
When you arrive home, provide your pet with a quiet, comfortable space to rest, away from other pets, stairs, and small children.
Offer soft food for the next 2–3 days. This can include canned wet food or kibble softened with water. Allow the kibble to soak for a few minutes before feeding.
Fresh water may be offered as usual.
If medications were provided, you can begin the first dose with your pet’s first meal.
Your pet can resume normal activities the following day unless otherwise instructed.
